Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.

Children should wear their PE kit to school on PE days. Tainers for PE should be mostly black.

Reading and writing - Our book focus for this term is the marvellous book 'Shackleton's Journey' by William Grill; an excellent book that looks at the real story of Ernest Shackleton and his attempt to sail to the South pole. In reading, we will explore high level vocabulary, how to make inferences based on clues within a text and revisiting how to find key information in texts using reading techniques such as skimming and scanning. In writing, we will be writing formal letters applying to join Shackleton's crew on their voyage to the South pole, and creating newspaper reports that follow the beginning of his grand journey.

Maths - Our new topics in maths will be using measurements all about the area of shapes, and methods for multiplying and dividing up to the 12 times tables. There is a national multiplication check which happens near the end of year 4 and so this topic is particularly important for children.

Science - Our science focus for this term is all about electricity, including its use in appliances at home, how to make functioning electrical circuits to power different components, and how to fix a circuit that is not working.

RE - Our RE learning this term is all about the significance of Pentecost for Christians, and the meaning of the holy trinity in Christianity.

Geography - We are learning all about rainforests. We will start by exploring where they are and how a rainforest is different to a normal forest. We will then explore what can be found in a rainforest and we will be ending with the impact humanity is having on our rainforests and what can be done about it.

Art - This term our art medium is paint. We will be looking at artists such as Georges Seurat and Henri Toulouse Lautrec, and attempting our own pointillist and block colour style artworks.

DT - A fitting link to our science, we will be looking at making electrical torches in DT this term, using our newfound science knowledge.

French - We will be learning all about ma Famille, or my family. Introducing different family members, their names, and how many older and younger siblings we have.

PSHE - In PSHE we will be exploring how to safely navigate risks, such as risks with fireworks, staying safe on roads and rails, and awareness of drugs, including household medicines, vaping, smoking and alcohol.

Music - We are continuing our Ukulele lessons with Miss Kent every Friday.

Children should aim to read at home 4 to 5 times per week, which can be recorded in their reading records. As well as reading, children have access to times table practice on Times Table Rockstars, and spelling practice on Spelling shed. Their login details are in their reading records. We would like children to attempt 15-20 minutes of practice on both spellings and times tables each week.

Reminder:  we start our day at 8:20 with early morning activities to settle into the school day. We would love to see as many of you here as possible at this time to have a great start to the school day.
