The Westborough School

Welcome to Class 1F

Your class teacher is

Mrs Fox

and

Danielle Thomas and Piper

will also be working with
our class.

We have PE on

Mondays and Fridays.

Welcome back. We are now in the last half term of your child's year 1.

The topic we will be doing some of our work around is 'Explore Creepy Crawleys'.  We hope to be making a class book with fact files about bugs.  We also need to sequence and retell a story of an eight legged friend.

In Read Write Ink we will be assessing how well your children are doing with their phonic knowledge, please keep reading and looking in the childs individual phonics books.

In maths we will be learning about fractions, length and mass, numbers beyond 50 up to 100.

In science we will be trying to recognise and name common trees and flowers, as well as looking at the anatomy, habitats and eating habits of  some different insects.

In Geography we will be drawing maps around school and comparing the use of two different areas. We shall also be polishing up on our directions.

In History we will be producing a time line of our own life events and watching some 'David Attenborough' videos about insects, and include some of this information in our fact files.

In PSHCE we will be looking at 'Emergencies', and how to respond to one.

In Art secondary colours will be mixed and used in our sketches and paintings of plants and leaves.

In Design Technology we will be designing our own'Fruit Kebabs', learning to peel, cut and chop safetly.

Please note that the children will have outdoor learning most days and will therefore need to have sun cream applied in the morning before school to ensure they are protected from the sun.

Homework.
We always encourage parents to make learning fun. If your child is tired and homework is regimented, your child might not feel happy to do it. Hiding numbers and words around the house can be turned into a game. Asking your child to read with you whilst you prepare dinner can be just as good as sitting down formally. We don’t want you to stop sharing other books with your children. Reading to your child introduces new words and information which is fantastic.

In the centre of your child’s reading record and phonics log you will find a page with all the common exception words that they will be learning to read and spell. Please try to encourage your child to use their sound knowledge to read these words. Once your child can read the sight words, please tick them off and we will check and update our record in school. This will not be every day.
